HANNIBAL | Homecoming did not go as planned for the Hannibal boys basketball team, as they fell to visiting Kirksville 55-42 Friday night.

The first quarter was low scoring with both teams combining for only 18 points. It would had been less without two late 3-pointers from Hannibal senior Andrew Vaia and Kirksville senior Kaden Anderson.

The Pirates played better in the second quarter and narrowed the Tigers lead to only three points going into halftime.

It was the third quarter that would be a backbreaker for Hannibal. Kirksville drained five 3-pointers in the third quarter, scoring 25 points to Hannibal's nine points.

Hannibal would improve in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Tigers by six points, but it was too little, too late.

Pirates sophomore Courtland Watson led the team with 11 points, making two 3-pointers and was 3-for-4 from the free throw line. Senior Adreke Brumbaugh finishing second with 10 points.

Hannibal scored 10 of their 42 points from the free throw line, as they were a combined 10-for-15 in free throw attempts. Kirksville was 6-for-11 from the free throw line.

Tigers junior Noah Copeland led his team with 15 points, with Dylan Kinney finishing second with 13 points.

Up next – Hannibal will host Moberly on Tuesday at 8 p.m.
