Hannibal man dies in collision

CARROLL COUNTY, Mo. - Bradley J. Griggs, 57, of Hannibal, died at the scene of a four-vehicle collision at 2:54 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15, in Carroll County, Mo. One more person was injured.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported Griggs was driving a southbound 1992 Chevrolet S10 truck on U.S. 24 at Mo. 10 and failed to slow for traffic in a construction zone.

His truck overtook and hit a southbound 2016 Chevrolet Malibu driven by Candice L. Smothers, 46, of Pittsfield, Ill., causing a chain reaction rear-end collision. The Smothers car was pushed into a 2016 Ram driven by Kyle D. Durham, 40, of Norborne, Mo., which then hit a 2020 Chevrolet Equinox driven by Larry F. Strait, 74, of Warrensburg, Mo.

Smothers suffered moderate injuries and went by ambulance to Carroll County Memorial Hospital.

Griggsby was pronounced dead at 3 p.m. Nov. 15 by Carroll County Chief Deputy Erik Dempsey.

Assisting at the scene were the Carroll County Police and Sheriff's Departments.
