Viola Lucile Claus, 80, of Ewing, Mo., passed away Thursday, Oct. 31, 2019, at her home in Ewing, Mo.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2019, at Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel in Palmyra, Mo. Rev. Lance Bonnell will officiate. Burial to follow at Durham Cemetery in Durham, Mo.
Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2019, at Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel in Palmyra.
Viola was born Nov. 22, 1938, to Earl and Virginia Nickerson Palmer in Hannibal.
She was married to John R. "Dick" Claus, on Feb. 15, 1962, in Miami, Okla. He preceded her in death on Aug. 24, 2011.
Survivors include her children, Virginia "Jenny" Garner (Curt White) of Lewistown, Mo., John Claus II (Mary) of Ewing, Mo., Sandra Goings (Roger) of Ewing, Mo., and Robert "Barry" Claus of Ewing, Mo.; brother, David Palmer of Ewing, Mo.; sister, Georgie Saunders (Harry) of Hannibal; grandchildren, Roger "Honch" Goings II (Kristen), Adam Garner (Danielle), Crystal Peavler (Alan), Tara Hamann (Kevin), Casey Casey (David), Katy Claus (Nathan) and Janel Claus; great-grandchildren, Nevaeh and Summer Goings, MaKennah and Jennah Peavler, Kinsley Garner, Jace, Rylea and Natalea Casey.
Viola was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and son, Joe Alan Leonard.
Viola worked as a CNA at Prairie View Nursing Home in Lewistown, retiring in 1985.
She loved crocheting, fishing, Cardinal baseball and especially spending time with her family.
She attended Hester Community Church in Maywood, Mo.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Quincy Humane Society or Hester Community Church.
Pallbearers will be John Claus, Barry Claus, Roger Goings II, Adam Garner, Curt White and David Casey.
Honorary pallbearers will be LeRoy Wagner, Todd Palmer, Roger Goings, Alan Peavler and Frank Daly.
