New London collision injures six people

NEW LONDON, Mo. – Six people were injured in a collision at 4:20 p.m. Thursday, Oct 17, on U.S. 61 at New London. One driver suffered moderate injures, and the others had minor injuries. All were using safety devices.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported Elizabeth A. Sitton, 65, of New London, Mo., was driving an eastbound 2014 Nissan Sentra and attempting to enter U.S. 61.

Officers said the collision occurred when Sitton failed to yield to a northbound 2014 Hyundai Sonata on U.S. 61 driven by by Sarah A. Moran, 23, of Troy. The Sitton vehicle stopped in the highway. The Moran vehicle went off the road and collided with a stop sign and a culvert.

Sitton had minor injuries. Her husband, Lon R. Sitton, 54, suffered moderate injuries. Moran and her husband, Daniel A. Moran, 26, a male juvenile infant and a 3-year-old female juvenile, all of Troy, all had minor injuries. All six went to Hannibal Regional Hospital.

Assisting at the scene were the Ralls County Sheriff's Department, New London Fire Department and Marion and Ralls County ambulance crews.
