MONROE CITY, Mo. – Two timely hits tied the game for the Monroe City softball team Monday night.

A sacrifice fly helped the Panthers win.

Riley Quinn and Emily Freidank drove in runs on back-to-back hits, and Bb Clark's sacrifice all in the second inning led Monroe City to a 3-2 victory over Salisbury.

Monroe City trailed 1-0 when Quinn's RBI single scored Bailee Hays. Freidank followed with a double that scored Quinn for a 2-1 lead. After Madelyn Meyer was hit by a pitch, Clark lifted a flyball to left that allowed Freidank to score for a 3-1 advantage.

That was enough run support for Quinn, who allowed just two runs on four hits while striking out seven in the complete game. Her lone blemish was a solo home run allowed in the fourth, but she retired the final four batters she faced to finish the game.

Tigers struggle on road

LOUISIANA, Mo. – The Mark Twain softball team fell 11-1 to Louisiana in six innings.

The Tigers' lone run came on Sydnee Brothers' solo home run in the sixth that cut the deficit to 8-1. The Bulldogs, however, answered with three runs in the bottom half.
