Prep softball roundup: Panthers break out bats against Spartans

MONROE CITY, Mo. – The Monroe City softball team banged out 21 hits on the way to a 10-3 victory over Moberly Tuesday night.

Emily Freidank led the Panthers with four hits, while Madelyn Meyer, Lauren Youngblood and Mackenzie Moss had three hits apiece.

The game was tied at 1-1 when Youngblood had an RBI single in the bottom of the second, and that was followed by Moss' two-run double, which made it 4-1. Youngblood led off the fourth with a home run that pushed the lead to 6-1. Bailee Hays and Belle Clark both drove in runs later in the inning.

Riley Quinn threw seven innings for the Panthers, scattering 10 hits while striking out six and walking two.


Tigers can't keep pace

KINGDOM CITY, Mo. – The Mark Twain softball team couldn't keep up with North Callaway in an 11-1 Eastern Missouri Conference loss.

North Callaway led 9-0 before Mark Twain finally got on the scoreboard in the top of the fifth inning. Kenleigh Epperson hit an RBI single that scored Emma Clarkson that cut the Tigers' deficit to 9-1.

North Callaway, however, answered with two runs in the bottom half to end the game by mercy rule.

Mark Twain finished with five hits, but committed six errors.
