Brummell's victory sends Pirates to second round

HANNIBAL – Elizabeth Brummell broke a deadlocked match by winning her No. 5 singles match to give the Hannibal girls tennis team a 5-4 victory over Troy in the first round of the Class 2 District 8 tournament Monday afternoon.

Brummell won her match 7-5, 6-4.

The Pirates won four singles matches after winning just one doubles match.

Jaspreet Kandola won at No. 3 singles 6-3, 6-1, while Emma Haner won at No. 4 singles 6-1, 6-1. Brooklyn Haye won at No. 6 singles 6-4, 6-1.

Brummell and Haye teamed up to win at No. 3 doubles 8-1.

Hannibal advances to play Jefferson City Tuesday.
