Toys for Tots of Northeast Missouri will provide toys to more than 860 children in a distribution in Hannibal Wednesday, Dec. 16.

About 400 low-income families qualified for Toys for Tots assistance in Marion, Ralls, Pike and Lewis Counties. During the distribution, Salvation Army will provide a food basket and additional toys through Toy Town.

Managerial support for Toys for Tots locally is provided by Douglass Community Services and Hannibal Parks & Recreation.

Stacey Nicholas, director of RSVP at Douglass, said, “We are grateful for the community support we have had in making Christmas brighter for children in the four-county area. Our partnerships make it possible to bring hope this Christmas.”

She especially thanked Tom Boland Ford, Lone Wolf No Club, Catherine Richards Dillingham circle of Kings Daughters, Twisted Juniper Yoga, Rotary Club, Women’s Network Connection, Y Women’s Club, Hannibal High School Natural Helpers and every individual who dropped coins in the coin cans or a toy in a collection box.

Volunteers from throughout the community, especially RSVP and the Hannibal Fire Department, will help with distribution.

The mission of the U. S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to less fortunate children in the community.
