Mark Twain boys roughed up by Panthers
The Mark Twain High School girls basketball team moved to 4-3 on Tuesday with a 58-54 home win over visiting Monroe City in Center.
After battling to a 40-40 tie through three quarters, the Lady Tigers won the final eight minutes of play with an 18-14 showing.
Sophomore McKenzie Lathrom scored 25 points on 8-of-15 shooting for MTHS in the back-and-forth matchup. She was 6 of 7 from the free-throw line, and also pulled down five rebounds to go with three assists and three steals. Seniors Michelle Epperson added 15 points, eight rebounds and four assists.
Mark Twain was ahead 15-11 after the first quarter, and 29-26 at halftime, but the Lady Panthers knotted things by outscoring the hosts 14-11 in the third period.
The Lady Tigers return to action on Thursday with a home game against Clopton.
Mark Twain boys basketball downed by Monroe City: The Mark Twain High School boys basketball team was unable to corral the Monroe City Panthers on Tuesday, suffering a 61-35 setback in Center.
The Tigers trailed 36-15 at the break before recovering with a better second half, but their early hole proved too much.
Senior Ethan Mack led Mark Twain with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore Grant Peters had nine points, eight rebounds and three blocks. Junior Bailey McMillen had nine points.
Mark Twain battles Clopton at 6 p.m. on Friday in Center.
