Are you a thrift and resale shop junkie? Hannibal has resale stores aplenty, particularly in the downtown area, where stores sell not only items, but the memories attached to them.
Are you a thrift and resale shop junkie? Hannibal has resale stores aplenty, particularly in the downtown area, where stores sell not only items, but the memories attached to them. Whether you’re looking for something run of the mill, or something original, there are outlets to fit just about any need. Here are some unique finds:
1. Child’s piano
Tucked in to a back room at Upscale Resale, a 25-key child’s piano stands at just about two feet tall. With a tinny and resonant sound, one plunk of a key can reverberate sound throughout the space. Schoenhut, the maker of the piano, has advanced from creating these miniature pianos and now also create digitized pianos. This one was on sale for $45.
2. Atwater Kent radio
There are plenty of old pieces of equipment and technology scattered throughout the various resale shops, but this piece, an $80 1925 Atwater Kent radio, comes complete with a speaker that looks like it came right off an old gramophone. The piece still works, and was found in the back room at Upscale Resale.
3. Mini books
Long before CSI, crime dramas and mysteries were found in books, like this set of mini books found in Savannah’s. The books are no more than four inches tall, with large print for tired eyes. At $16.50 apiece, the books are a rare collectible.
4. Chinese castle stalactite
Some people look for things like home decor and furniture pieces. Some seek the outright wacky. Lydia’s Cabinet of Curiosities is the right place, where near the front door is a “Chinese castle stalactite.” Don’t know what that is? We don’t know either, but it’s a unique natural piece that is certainly a conversation starter. Price tag: $1,200
5. Antique bed
Rustic and repurposed is in! Those looking for furniture should look at these shops, particularly in the upstairs of Savannah’s, where a vintage, aqua-blue child’s bed frame waits for $55.
