Sterling Thomas Owens, 79, of Hannibal, Mo., passed away at 11:42 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2015, at his home.

Sterling Thomas Owens, 79, of Hannibal, Mo., passed away at 11:42 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2015, at his home.

Graveside services and burial will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30, 2015, at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Hannibal. Rev. Tim Goodman will officiate.

Visitation will be from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, at the James O'Donnell Funeral Home.

Mr. Owens was born June 6, 1936, in Hannibal, Mo., to Fred Owens and Mary Welch.

He was married to Rose Ann Dodd on July 6, 1956, in Hannibal, Mo. She preceded him in death April 18, 2010.

He was also preceded in death by one son, John Wesley Owens; one daughter, Phyllis Ann Owens; two brothers, Harold “Cutter” Fogle and Fred Welch; and sisters.

Survivors include two sons, Sterling Eugene Owens (Cynthia) and James Francis Owens (Pat); one daughter-in-law, Patricia Owens; seven grandchildren, Valerie Scranton, Malachi Owens, Sterling Owens II, Rose Fountain, Mary Patterson, Tricia Thompson and Shelby Owens; 15 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his special friends, Jake VanHoose, Raymond L. "Dinky" Allen and Theresa Fogle.

Mr. Owens previously worked as a mechanic, retiring from Vance's Garage. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and boating on the river. Sterling also liked watching old movies, especially westerns. He was a Christian by faith.

Pallbearers will be James Owens, James Fountain Jr., John Fogle, Les Johnston, Michael Hirner and Sterling Eugene Owens.
