Townsend Tree Service personnel were trimming trees along West Ely Road in Hannibal on Wednesday afternoon.

A small segment of West Ely Road in Hannibal was reduced to one lane Wednesday afternoon while Townsend Tree Service personnel trimmed branches hanging near power lines that run along the thoroughfare.

It was reported at the October meeting of the Board of Public Works Board that during the month of September 21,000 linear feet of electric lines were trimmed. In September, Townsend trimmed mostly along Warren Barrett Drive, according to Heath Hall, the BPW’s director of operations.

Regular tree trimming has helped the BPW’s electric system maintain a reliability percentage of 99.99 percent over the past 15 months.
