A Hannibal man is behind bars after a local homeowner allegedly discovered him committing a robbery in progress Monday, Oct. 26.

Officers arrested Jeffery R. Dietle, 25, after he attempted to flee on foot.

The Hannibal Police Department originally responded to a report of a robbery at a residence in the 1300 block of Owens Ave. When officers arrived, the homeowner said he had discovered a man in an upstairs bedroom. After a short struggle with the homeowner, the suspect reportedly ran from the scene on foot.

Dietle was booked on charges of first-degree robbery and armed criminal action. He was released to the Marion County Jail on a 24-hour hold. The homeowner suffered minor injuries during the struggle with the suspect, but did not require any medical attention.
