The Great Oz Halloween Fest will take place in Clarksville, Mo., on Oct. 30-31. Two days of exciting fun are coming your way, as historic Clarksville distinctively celebrates Halloween. The event promises to be a record breaking, apple bobbing, hay riding, wiener roasting, movie watching, haunted forest good time. All scheduled activities will take place in Riverfront Park.

Clarksville’s Halloween Fest event kicks off on Friday night at 7 p.m., with a free outdoor premier of the latest released movie, OzLand. The multi-award winning movie OzLand, will make its St. Louis-area premier in Clarksville. The movie is based in a dry and dusty post-apocalyptic world, where two wayfarers wander aimlessly until one of them finds a copy of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Using the world around him to interpret what he reads, character Leif allows the book to challenge the beliefs, friendship, and even the very survival of these two divergent travelers. OzLand explores the themes of faith, friendship, and imagination as these two characters deal with life in a post-apocalyptic world where one man’s interpretation of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz becomes more than just fiction and leads him to the profound question: What If? There will also be Hayrides and a wiener roast. Snacks will be available during the movie.

“This event promises to be the most unique of festivals around,” said Jackson Bishop, Marketing Director of the Clarksville Chamber.

Saturday’s line up of activities is packed full of fall family fun. There will be a large Halloween Vendor’s Market from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Vendors will have all your fall favorites, and will offer a huge variety of items for sale. A “Scaredy Crow” 5K Run/Walk will be held at 11 a.m. Live entertainment and games for the kids will be featured all day in the park. For those looking for a bit of a scary thrill, a haunted forest attraction will take visitors through the spooky themed pavilions, which will make up an outdoor funeral, zombie land, cemetery and a butcher shop.

One of the highlights of the Halloween Fest will be a Guinness World Record Attempt, for the most people dressed as Wizard of Oz characters in one place.

“Clarksville has been challenged to this World Record Attempt,” Bishop said. “We will be trying to set a new record with over 1,100 people dressed. But, we need everyone’s help to achieve this goal. Bring the whole family costumed in their favorite Oz attire.”

You can help with setting with this World Record attempt by coming dressed as one of your favorite Wizard of Oz characters. Don’t have a costume? There’s no worry. There will have booths set up on sight with kid’s costumes for sale and several adult costumes available for rent.

Saturday’s activities will end with one of the area’s biggest Trunk or Treats in the Riverfront Park from 5 to 7 p.m. There will also be candlelight Halloween Tours of the Elgin/Cottrell Museum from 6 to 9:30 p.m.
