Hannibal Board of Public Works personnel were making power line upgrades at the entrance to Riverview Park on Thursday morning.

Hannibal Board of Public Works water customers probably didn’t realize the Water Filter Plant was shut down Thursday so an assortment of projects could take place.

At the entrance to Riverview Park the power line was being upgraded to accommodate not only the water plant, but provide electricity to the pump house, located near the Mississippi River on Bridge Street.

Bob Stevenson, general manager of the BPW, explained that the electrical redundancy is important since the pump house is susceptible to the loss of power due to landslides.

Eventually power lines to the water plant and pump house will go underground.
