Cellist Katie Schisler will present a recital at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 25, at the Hannibal Arts Council, 105 S. Main St.

The recital is free, and donations will be accepted for the Stowell School Strings Program.

Schisler is originally from Marshall, Mo., where she joined the school orchestra when she was in fifth grade. After a year of playing, she was invited to join the Marshall Philharmonic, giving her a great opportunity to grow as a cellist. The Philharmonic later gave her a scholarship that enabled her to come back as a featured soloist.

Schisler received a Bachelor of Music Education Vocal/Instrumental from the University of Central Missouri, where she studied under Dr. Michael Bersin. Since then, she has taught general and vocal music in public and private schools, as well as teaching privately.

She is currently the music teacher at A.D. Stowell Elementary, where she recently began a string program. Schisler will be accompanied by pianist Michael Gaines.
