The Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program is accepting applications from low-income families for Christmas Assistance. The Hannibal Unit, based at Douglass Community Services, covers Marion, Ralls, and Lewis Counties.

Applications were mailed to local schools and churches. They can also be obtained at the Salvation Army or Douglass Community Services.

Last year, the Toys for Tots program provided Christmas joy to approximately 810 children. Each child is guaranteed a minimum of five gifts. Last year, children receiving Christmas presents from the Hannibal unit received seven gifts each.

Through the local partnership with the Salvation Army, families receiving gifts from Toys for Tots receive a Christmas box of food, as well.

The mission of the U. S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year, and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to less fortunate children in the community in which the campaign is conducted.

“In Marion County, we have been blessed partnerships with local organizations, such as Hannibal Parks and Recreation and NECAC,” said Stacey Nicholas the local Toys for Tots coordinator.

All toys and money collected in Northeast Missouri will remain in Northeast Missouri.
