Board of Public Works personnel were putting the finishing touches on a refurbished light pole on Broadway in Hannibal Friday morning.

A downtown street lighting program that began in May was wrapping up Friday morning on Broadway in Hannibal where Board of Public Works personnel were putting the finishing touches on one of 46 light poles that were refurbished and fitted with new light-emitting diode (LED) lighting.

On Friday, one worker was attaching the pole’s skirt while his co-worker was using the bucket part of the truck to attach a flag holder.

Each light pole was sandblasted and repainted. They were then fitted with new globes, fixtures, shades and LED bulbs.

Reportedly comparable work is planned for the light poles that are located in Central Park.
