Pirate boys soccer blanks Canton
The Hannibal High School volleyball finished its regular season 21-7 after picking up its third straight victory Thursday at Korf Gymnasium in Hannibal.
Hannibal clinched the North Central Missouri Conference title with a 25-19, 25-17 sweep of Boonville, moving to a perfect 10-0 in league play.
Hannibal will resume play Monday in the District 9 Tournament at Troy Buchanan High School.
On Thursday, Hannibal kept its positive momentum going behind the continuous strong play of its senior core.
Sydney Bennett had 14 service assists, while Lauren Wheelan had seven kills six assists and four digs. Anna Murphy added seven digs and six kills, and Calen Bailey had six kills and six digs.
Hannibal's junior varsity squad improved to 18-5-3 with a 25-15, 25-13 victory. The freshmen were victorious as well, claiming a 25-15, 25-17 win to jump to 15-3-1.
Baumann leads Hannibal boys soccer to win: Hannibal senior Jack Baumann scored four goals to pace the Pirates' soccer team to a 6-0 victory over Canton on senior night Thursday at Veterans Field in Hannibal.
Baumann, who already owns HHS' career scoring record, now has 34 scores on the season. Two more would tie him with the Pirates single-season record of 36.
Hannibal (13-8) led 3-0 by halftime. Cory Allensworth added a goal and an assists. Heinrich Theune, Jake Riefesel and Adam Albright added assists as well.
Senior goalkeeper Luke Anderson was in goal for the shutout.
The Pirates managed 15 shots, with nine coming on goal.
“It was a nice win to get on senior night,” Hannibal head coach Eric Hill said. “It was a good opportunity to get all eight of our seniors out there and they all played really well.”
