The Hannibal Police Department said Thursday that the body of an elderly man found in a Broadway home on Oct. 6 had been dead for months.

The HPD said the body was that of Carl A. Maxwell, 84, of Hannibal.

A person of interest has been identified and the investigation is ongoing, according to a press release issued from the department.

It is unclear if Maxwell was the owner of the home at 2034 Broadway, where his body was discovered.

A neighbor told the Courier-Post an elderly couple lived in the home, but that when a woman died, her husband moved out to be nearer to children.
