Four people were injured, one seriously, in a single-vehicle mishap Wednesday afternoon in Marion County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol the accident occurred at 3:45 p.m. on Route 168, five miles west of Philadelphia, Mo.

A 1999 Dodge 3500, driven by Sterling E. Owens of Hannibal, was towing a motor home east. When Owens swerved to avoid a deer in the roadway the vehicle ran off the right side of the road where it overturned.

A passenger, Ashley S. Bartz of Ewing, who was not wearing a safety device, was ejected. Bartz, who sustained serious injuries, was flown by Survival Flight to University Hospital in Columbia.

Owens, who was not wearing a safety device, suffered moderate injuries. He was transported to Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Ill., by Marion County Ambulance.

Also hurt were two of Bartz's children – 7-year-old Kennedi R. Black and 4-year-old Jayce E. Black, both of Ewing. Both youngsters, who were wearing safety devices, were left with minor injuries. They were also transported by ambulance to Blessing Hospital.
