Services for Janet “Janie” McMurphy King, 69, of Tyler, Texas, will be held on Oct. 17, 2015 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel at Marvin United Methodist Church, Tyler, with Rev. Ingrid Akers officiating under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home.
Services for Janet “Janie” McMurphy King, 69, of Tyler, Texas, will be held on Oct. 17, 2015 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel at Marvin United Methodist Church, Tyler, with Rev. Ingrid Akers officiating under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home. A reception will be held immediately following in Pirtle Hall. Private burial will be held at Rose Lawn Cemetery in Tyler.
Mrs. King passed peacefully on Oct. 10 in Tyler. She was born June 6, 1946 in Hannibal, Mo.
She was a member of Marvin United Methodist Church, Smith County Medical Alliance Society, the International Novelty Salt and Pepper Shakers Club and the President of the Lone Star Salt and Pepper Shakers Club.
Mrs. King had a bachelors degree from the University of Missouri in education with a minor in music. She had a masters degree in psychology from the University of Texas at Tyler. She was formerly a third grade teacher and later a therapist. Most recently, she was involved with volunteer work in the community.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Louise McMurphy; her brother, Larry McMurphy; and nephew, John McMurphy.
She is survived by her loving family including husband, Dr. Kevin King; daughter Amy Cole, husband Matt and grandchildren Daniel and Tyler of Edmond, Okla.; daughter Erin King of Austin; stepson Michael King, wife Jennifer and grandchildren Max and Alex of The Woodlands; and stepdaughter Robin King of Glenwood Springs, Colo.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the National MS Society, P O Box 4125, Houston, TX 77210-4125 or the American Lung Association, 55 W. Wacker Dr., Suite 1150, Chicago, IL 60601, with a note on the memo line stating “In Mrs. Janie King’s memory.”
