John Robert “Bob” Freiling, Sr., 88, of Hannibal, Mo., passed away at 2:15 p.m. Monday, June 29, 2015, at Beth Haven Nursing Home in Hannibal.

John Robert “Bob” Freiling, Sr., 88, of Hannibal, Mo., passed away at 2:15 p.m. Monday, June 29, 2015, at Beth Haven Nursing Home in Hannibal. 

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 2, 2015, at the James O’Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal. Rev. Michael Stoerger will officiate and Rev. Bill Haffner will assist. Burial with full military rites by Emmette J. Shields American Legion Post #55 will be at Grand View Burial Park.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the time of services Thursday, at the James O’Donnell Funeral Home.

Mr. Freiling was born Oct. 31, 1926, in Hannibal, Mo., to John and Anna G. Helwig Freiling.

He was married to Mary Jacquelyn “Jackie” Adams on Oct. 6, 1951, in Hannibal, Mo. They celebrated 61 years of marriage together. She preceded him in death Oct. 20, 2012.

Survivors include one son, John Robert Freiling, Jr. and wife Mary of Hannibal, Mo.; one daughter, Marianna Miller and husband Michael of Hannibal, Mo.; five grandchildren, Justin Freiling (Christy), Johnathon Freiling (Jordan), September Shade (Doug), Missy Miller (Caleb), Mindy Greenwald (John); and five great-grandchildren, Gage Castleberry, Jaxson Freiling, Anna Freiling, Mason Greenwald and Lucas Greenwald.

He was also preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Rosemary Paschal.

Mr. Freiling was a United States Army Veteran, serving his country during the Korean Conflict. He also served in the Army Reserves for 12 years and transferred to the Naval Reserves for 18 years. Mr. Freiling was a farmer in Ralls County for many years. He retired from the Missouri State Highway Department. Mr. Freiling enjoyed camping with his wife and spoiling their grandchildren. He loved to collect and restore antique horse drawn farm equipment and liked telling jokes. Mr. Freiling was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Pallbearers will be John Greenwald, Justin Freiling, Johnathon Freiling, Johnny Paschal, Charlie Paschal and Caleb Griffitt.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Jeff Munger, Bob Johnson, Skip Wells and Bill King.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Bell Choir or the Shelbina Old Threshers, in care of the James O’Donnell Funeral Home.
