A deck repair on the bridge over the Salt River, just south of Missouri Route O, near New London on U.S. 61 in Ralls County, will begin Monday, July 6. The project will be completed on the northbound lanes of the bridge. Bleigh Construction was awarded the contract for $2,425,134.69 and should be completed by Nov. 15.

"The first phase of the project is to build temporary crossovers on either side of the bridge so we can close the northbound bridge and make the repairs efficiently and safely," said MoDOT Area Engineer, Brian Haeffner. “Once the crossovers are completed, northbound traffic will be routed to the southbound lanes so there will be two-way head-to-head traffic in the current southbound lanes."

The construction of the temporary crossovers should be completed mid-July, then the northbound bridge will close. The project will be worked on during the hours of 7 a.m. and 3:30 a.m. Monday through Friday. Traffic control will be in place alerting motorists of the work.

The median crossover just north of the Salt River Bridge accessing Missouri Route O will close July 6. At that time, drivers coming off of Route O will turn right, heading north to the next crossover to use to go south.

When traffic is two-way on the northbound lanes, after the temporary bypasses are complete, drivers wanting to turn onto Route O off of U.S. 61 will be able to at the existing crossover - it will open back up. However, drivers coming off of Route O wanting to turn south will still have to go north on U.S. 61 by turning right and going to the next crossover to go south.
