WHAT IS IT? David Davidson, with A to Z Restoration, fills small holes and prepares the woodwork for primer on Becky's Old Fashioned Ice Cream Parlor & Emporium on Main Street on Monday, June 29, 2015.

An artfully detailed wooden panel waited for A to Z Restoration’s David Davidson, as he refurbished the facade of Becky’s Old Fashioned Ice Cream Parlor & Emporium on Main Street.

Davidson discovered a panel from the early 1900s during removal of layers of old paint and damaged sections of wood. The discovery will soon shine with new paint and surrounded by renovated woodwork.

During the roughly 1 1/2-week process, Davidson used period photographs to determine the wood trim’s bygone appearance, striving to keep the project “as close to original as possible.”

When the restoration called for replacement wood, Davidson selected fir and cedar for durability. He hopes to have caulk sealing and epoxy work done soon, and to apply fresh paint by July 4, “if the weather lets us.”

Davidson smiled as he performed his tasks under a blue topaz sky with a few wispy clouds.

According to the Courier-Post weather forecast, showers and thunderstorms are expected for late day and evening Tuesday, June 30, 2015.
