Hannibal Street Department workers were removing a fallen tree that threatened to dam a runoff area near Hope Street.
In recent weeks Hannibal Street Department personnel have worked on a storm-water project, assembled a bridge and installed flood gates. On Friday morning they were busy removing a fallen tree near the western end of Hope Street.
“We do it all,” said Jim Hoskins of the Street Department with a smile.
A nearby resident had called the Street Department with concerns that the tree, which reportedly fell on Thursday, might create a natural dam in the stream that it had previously stood beside.
After cutting up the tree, a team of approximately seven men pulled pieces of the tree to an area near an alley were they could be loaded onto a truck and hauled away.
