Hannibal Regional Hospital is preparing for Missouri Breastfeeding Month in August.

Hannibal Regional Hospital is preparing for Missouri Breastfeeding Month in August. The theme for 2015 is “Breastfeeding and Work, Making it Work!” — which showcases, facilitates and strengthens supportive practices that enable working women to continue to breastfeed.

The Hannibal Area Breastfeeding Task Force is inviting local businesses to participate in the “Breastfeeding Friendly Workplace” program. Establishing a workplace program as part of an organization’s health benefit program is a win-win for both the organization and employees. It provides cost savings, reduced absenteeism, lower health care costs, improved employee productivity and retention and creates a family friendly image.

The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, in collaboration with the Missouri Breastfeeding Coalition, has implemented the Missouri “Breastfeeding Friendly Worksite Program” to educate employers on the value of providing lactation support in the workplace and to recognize businesses that support their breastfeeding employees.

Participating local businesses will be recognized during the celebration of World Breastfeeding Week, on Monday, August 3, at Hannibal Regional Hospital. Each business with receive a framed certificate, recognition on the Missouri Breastfeeding Coalition website and in a press release for local media.
