Cecilia Rose Adam, 94, of Monroe City, MO, passed away at 1:50 a.m. on Monday, July 29, 2013, at the Salt River Nursing Home in Shelbina, MO. Cecilia was born on November 3, 1918, in Monroe County, MO, the daughter of James Benedict and Stella Martha Carrico Yager.
Cecilia was a member of the St. Stephens Catholic Church, Indian Creek, MO. She was a 1936 graduate of St. Stephens High School, Indian Creek, MO. Cecilia and her husband were Monroe County farmers and owned and operated the Gambles Store in Monroe City, MO. She was a member of the St. Stephens Church Altar Society and the Daughters of Isabella. Cecilia was also a member of the Monroe County Democratic Committee and the Monroe County Health Board. She volunteered her time at the Monroe City Nutrition Center. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, quilting, and playing cards. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinal Baseball fan. Cecilia enjoyed anything involving her children and grandchildren.
She married John Paul Adam, June 4, 1940, at St. Stephens Catholic Church, Indian Creek, MO, he passed away, December 16, 1980.
Survivors include two sons, Bill Adam and wife Patty, Quincy, IL, and Dan Adam and companion Jan Gottman, Monroe City, MO; one daughter, Linda Ritter and husband Jack, St. Louis, MO; ten grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, ten step- grandchildren, twenty-six step- great grandchildren, three great great step-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, August 2, 2013, at the St. Stephens Catholic Church, Indian Creek, MO. Burial will be from the St. Stephens Cemetery, Father Mike Penn will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday evening, the daughters of Isabella will recite the rosary at 4:45 p.m. and the Parish scripture service will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Garner Funeral Home, Monroe City, MO.
Pallbearers will be David Adam, Joel Adam, Michael Ritter, Adam Ritter, Steve Marshall, and Brant Arnold. Memorials have been suggested to the St. Stephens Church or the Monroe City Nutrition Center.
