Mrs. Lula Mae DeWilde, 97, of Monroe City, Mo., passed away at 7:33 p.m. Sunday, March 28, 2010, at the Monroe City Manor, Monroe City.


Mrs. Lula Mae DeWilde, 97, of Monroe City, Mo., passed away at 7:33 p.m. Sunday, March 28, 2010, at the Monroe City Manor, Monroe City.
She was born March 16, 1913, in Marion County, Mo., the daughter of Henry Francis and Lillie Mae Sandifer Potterfield.
Mrs. DeWilde was a member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church of Monroe City. She attended Ely Country School, Ely, Mo., and also Monroe City Public High School, Monroe City. She worked for many years at the Ely Store and Telephone Exchange and then the ASCS office in Palmyra, Mo. She enjoyed reading, gardening and traveling.
She married Thomas Elias Lear Jr., Nov. 5, 1933. He preceded her in death June 27, 1973. She later married Abel Bennett DeWilde on Dec. 10, 1976, and he preceded her in death June 3, 1992.
Survivors include one son, Jim Lear and wife Sharon, Monroe City; one sister, Mrs. Ruth Lomax and husband Sam, Hannibal, Mo.; and two grandchildren, Eric Lear and wife Kate, Roanoke, Va., and Jami Black and husband Tony, Columbia, Mo. She was also survived by five great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; four brothers, Francis (Sap), Henry, Bert and Daniel (Tete) Potterfield; and one sister, Leona Long.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 1, 2010, at the Garner Funeral Chapel, Monroe City, Mo. Father Don Antweiler will officiate, and burial will be from the St. Jude Cemetery, Monroe City.
Visitation will be from noon Thursday until time of services at the Garner Funeral Home, Monroe City. Pallbearers will be Allen Long, Ronnie Lake, Denny Harrison, and Ren, Billy and John Potterfield.
Memorials have been suggested to the Monroe City Nutrition Center. Garner Funeral Home and Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
