Marion County Sheriff Jimmy Shinn is warning residents of an asphalt scam.
Shinn said his office is investigating one complaint of fraud. A resident told authorities that a crew arrived at a home unsolicited and took the homeowner for $3,000 with “recycled asphalt.”
Other reports about asphalt paving and sealing, as well as tree-trimming, lightning rods, roofing and other home improvements, also have been received.
The sheriff’s office advises residents to thoroughly check references before committing to any work and to report instances of fraud.
