Sarah Jane Craig, 90, of Monroe City, Mo., passed away at 8:45 p.m. Tuesday, March 23, 2010, at the Monroe City Manor, Monroe City, Mo.


Sarah Jane Craig, 90, of Monroe City, Mo., passed away at 8:45 p.m. Tuesday, March 23, 2010, at the Monroe City Manor, Monroe City, Mo.

She was born Sept. 14, 1919, in Monroe City, the daughter of Prichett Foster and Edyth Mae Evans White.

Mrs. Craig was a member of the Monroe City First Baptist Church. She was a 1937 graduate of Monroe City High School and she also attended Central Methodist University, Fayette, Mo. She worked for Sen. Ed Caldwell in Jefferson City, Mo., as an administrative assistant as a young adult. She then owned and operated Craig Clothing in Monroe City, beginning in 1960 and continuing until 1983.

Survivors include one son, Jay Craig and wife Marge, Shelbina, Mo.; three daughters, Jeanne Beth Carr and husband Ben, Lexington, Ky., Jan Spalding and husband, Albert, Monroe City, and Joan Craig, Columbia, Mo.; five grandchildren, Melissa, Jason and Tim Craig, Jill Hawse and Julie DeGraff; four step-grandchildren, Penny Fulton, Jeff, Kathy and Lisa Spalding; nine great-grandchildren; 10 step great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and two sisters, Elisabeth Reid Bell and Kathryn Rodes.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 27, at the Garner Funeral Chapel, Monroe City, Mo. The Rev. Steve Goughnour will officiate, with entombment at St. Jude Mausoleum, Monroe City.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until time of services Saturday at the Garner Funeral Home, Monroe City.

Pallbearers will be Jason Craig, Tim Craig, Levi Ball, Dennis Lorenson, Jack Coleman and Dennis Hancock.

Memorials are suggested to Shiloh Christian Children’s Home, Shelbina, Mo., or the Monroe City Nutrition Center.

Garner Funeral Home and Chapel, Monroe City, is in charge of arrangements.
