Services for Lavonne A. Cleaver, 78, of Bettendorf, Iowa, formerly of Perry will be at 10 a.m., Dec. 31, 2009, at Bienhoff Funeral Home, Perry, with Reverend David Todd officiating. Burial will be at Lick Creek Cemetery.
Services for Lavonne A. Cleaver, 78, of Bettendorf, Iowa, formerly of Perry will be at 10 a.m., Dec. 31, 2009, at Bienhoff Funeral Home, Perry, with Reverend David Todd officiating. Burial will be at Lick Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Cleaver passed away at 3:20 p.m. Dec. 28, 2009, at Genesis Hospital East in Davenport, Iowa.
She was born Oct. 22, 1921, in Cushing, Okla., the daughter of Allie C. and Leona (Babe) Bowman Cearley.
She was married to Bobby D. Cleaver on Sept. 29, 1951, in Harding, Ark., and he preceded her in death March 1, 1995.
Survivors include two sons and their spouses, John and Jill Cleaver of Pensacola, Fla., and Tracy and Karen Cleaver of Bettendorf, Iowa; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Sherry Cleaver of Monroe City, Mickie and C.E. Baldwin of Spring Hill, Kan., Annette Cleaver and Jack Vitale of Acworth, Ga., and Martha Lenz of Concordia; one daughter-in -law, Diana Cleaver of Leavenworth, Kan.; one brother and his wife, Bill and Billie Cearley of Perry; and nine grandchildren, Amanda Kline of Manhattan, Kan., Megan Cleaver of New Orleans, La., Allie Cleaver of Oxford, Miss., Zack and Logan Lenz of Warrensburg, Bobby Baldwin of Spring Hill, Kan., Laura, Emma and John Dalton Cleaver, all of Bettendorf, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by one son, Larry Cleaver.
Mrs. Cleaver and family moved to the Perry area in 1964 after traveling with her husband who was in the military service for more than 20 years. She was a member of the Perry Christian Church, the Twain Haven Auxiliary, the Audrain Medical Center Auxiliary, the Wednesday Club, the VFW Post 4088 Ladies Auxiliary and the American Postal Workers Union. She was a school teacher for several years at Greenlawn School and then served as a teacher’s aide for three years. She then went to work in the postal service and was employed for more than 20 years. Following her retirement, she worked at Bienhoff Funeral Home. She moved to Bettendorf, Iowa one year ago to be close to her son, Tracy and his family. She enjoyed reading, crocheting and spending time with her family and friends.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Perry Nutrition Center or the Perry Christian Church.
Pallbearers will be Zack Lenz, Clyde Leake, Bobby Baldwin, Curt Cearley, Travis Cearley and Logan Lenz.
