Monroe City aldermen have authorized prosecuting the owner of a fire-ravaged downtown business for failure to abate a nuisance.
The Wedge restaurant and bar at 501 to 507 S. Main were gutted by fire on April 21.
No cause was found, but investigators believed an electrical problem sparked the fire.
The city had given owner Joe Hill until Oct. 21 to demolish or fix up the property. Hill had planned to put a roof on the building and board it up, but the work was not done.
Hill also asked that the city pay the $20,000 difference between demolition and boarding it up, but the city declined.
City Attorney John Wilcox was asked to take legal action against Hill.
