Sawyer’s Creek officially changed hands Tuesday when the closing documents were signed by John and Judy Kenison of Hannibal and officials with Ralls County State Bank (RCS Bank). The closing wrapped up a process that started Dec. 9 when the Kenisons submitted the top bid of $350,000 during an auction for the property.
Judy Kenison was upbeat about finalizing the purchase.
“I feel excited about it,” she said. “I think we’re going to have fun trying to get it going.”
According to John Kenison, only some preliminary work is planned at the property, which he hopes to have open by May if not sooner.
“The winter months are going to be tough to do anything. We’re going to be working on the outside and I’ll have some people in there,” he said, noting that some roof repairs and tree pruning are planned initially.
During the weeks ahead more planning will occur regarding the property.
“When we went there (auction) we didn’t really think we’d be buying it. We didn’t do any real major planning until after we realized we had it,” said John Kenison. “I’d say in another 30 days we ought to have a better idea on that part of it."
