Iris Carol Brown, 77, of rural New London, formerly of Quincy, Ill., beloved wife and mother, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Dec. 20, 2009.
She was born in rural Camp Point Feb. 5, 1932, a daughter of William H. and Susan Eber Humke. Aug. 22, 1996, she and Paul R. Brown were united in marriage in New London. He survives.
Iris worked for Motorola and Gardner Denver where she retired in 1990. She was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Quincy for many years. She attended Mt. Zion Christian Church after relocating from Quincy. Iris was an avid reader, loved flowers and her flower gardens and all the birds were her friends. She enjoyed all of nature, traveling, but most of all spending time with her family at the family farm where she grew up.
Survivors including her husband include six children and step-children: Jeff (Sandy) Gibson and John Gibson (Angie Vahle), all of Quincy, Ill., Janet (Dave) Fesler of Camp Point, Julie (Christian) Grund of Oberlauterbach, France, Scott (Molly) Brown of Bend, Ore., and Paul Brown Jr. of Santa Rosa, Calif.; eight grandchildren, Steven (Erin) Elmore, Jenna Gibson, Jillian Gibson and Jayme Gibson, all of Quincy, Ill., Dillon Gibson, Aaron Gibson and Riley Gibson, all of Fayetteville, Ark., and Joshua Gibson of Springfield, Ill.; two brothers, Russell (Darlene) Humke of Quincy, Ill., and Gerald Humke of Auburn, Ill.
She was preceded in death by three sisters: Mildred Bangert, Norma Brink and Grace Humke; a brother, Kenneth Humke and her parents William and Susan Humke.
Iris was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, mother-in-law, daughter-in-law, sister-in-law, aunt and friend. Everyone who knew Iris, loved her.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 27, at the Lummis-Hamilton Funeral Home in Camp Point by the Pastor Bruce Bouman. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery, Camp Point, Ill. Casket bearers will be John Gibson, Jeff Gibson, Steven Elmore, David Fesler, Christian Grund, Joshua Gibson, Dillon Gibson and Scott Brown.
Visitation will be from noon until the time of services Sunday at the Lummis Hamilton Funeral Home in Camp Point.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Zion Christian Church in Hannibal.
