Despite a lean holiday shopping season, Beau Hicks, executive director of the Hannibal Convention and Visitors Bureau (HCVB), is calling this year’s efforts to promote Hannibal wares in the Quincy Mall a success.
“I think it went pretty good considering that everyone tells me they’re down this holiday season. From the shops in the mall to the shops downtown, this Christmas season just hasn’t been as robust as the last couple of years for the smaller stores it seems,” he said. “I think we did well. We’re going to end up with probably $6,000 or so that we brought in in about a month’s time.”
Most of the HCVB’s expenses will be covered, according to Hicks.
“It will cover all the costs to run the store and to get it ready. We’ll eat some of our workers’ time that we had up there, but the way to look at it is it was like a big, free billboard that you could walk into and explore in the middle of the Quincy Mall to help our downtown. That’s kind of how my board views it,” he said.
