Tuesday evening the Hannibal basketball teams took on the Savannah Savages at the North Central Missouri Holiday Hoops Shootout. Both the girl’s team and the boy’s team came away with losses.

The Hannibal girls got the first crack at the Savages and the young Lady Pirates just didn’t have enough for an upset. Savannah controlled the game and won 73-7. The Lady Pirates fell to 0-8 in 2009.

After watching the girl’s team get beat, it was the boy’s teams’ turn to try and pull out a win. The Savages were too much and knocked off the Hannibal boys 66-42.
With the loss, the boys fall back to .500 and now sit at 5-5.

Both teams will be back in action today for the last time before the winter break. The Lady Pirates will take on Chillicothe at noon. The boys will face Maryville at 1:30 p.m. Both games will take place in Trenton, Mo.

The Lady Pirates’ loss comes one day after Hannibal lost to Westran in three overtimes. Westran won 54-46 preventing the Lady Pirates from getting win No. 1 on the season. Cassidy Trenhaile had 16 points for Hannibal and Krystal Ferguson had 15 in the loss.
