For two days the Hannibal Pirates squared off against some of the best competition they will see all season.
Friday and Saturday the Pirate wrestlers made the cross-state trek to Kansas City, Mo., for the Toshiba Classic. Taking on 32 schools from different states, the Pirates got a big early season test.
“The level of competition is unlike anything we will see this year,” Hannibal head coach Derek Greening said. “Every weight class that was there had two-to-three State champions from different states. It was a very, very tough tournament.”
Bryant Ruby continued his torrid start to the season. The 130-pounder for the Pirates was the top-placing individual at the Classic. Bryant picked up seven wins against just one loss to come back to Hannibal with third place honors.
