The La Grange Police Department has explained that the mother who said she prevented an attempted kidnapping of her 2-year-old daughter on Oct. 20 has admitted her report was completely false. The police reported a lengthy investigation was conducted and officers learned there was no foundation for the report.
On Oct. 29 the La Grange police and Lewis County Sheriff’s Department interviewed the mother, and she admitted her story was a fabrication. She also provided a written statement admitting her lie, according to the police.
This matter will be referred to the Lewis County prosecutor for further disposition, officers said. Once a determination is made about how to proceed, her name will be released.
The officers said they are releasing this information to calm any fears related to her report. With today being Halloween, the police want the public to know that this report was completely false, so parents need not worry about an attempted kidnapper being on the loose.
Anyone with questions about this may call the La Grange Police Department at (573) 655-4099 or the Lewis County Sheriff’s Department at (573) 767-5311.
