The Quincy Family YMCA and the YMCA of Hannibal are teaming up to help fill local food pantries.  In a friendly competition called the “Gridiron Grocery Challenge”, these Y’s are holding food drives at their locations to gather foodstuffs until Nov. 6. Non-perishable food items may be dropped off at either YMCA. The items gathered at the Quincy Family YMCA will be distributed to the Madonna House Food Pantry, and the YMCA of Hannibal will donate their collected items to the Salvation Army and Douglass Community Services. At the end of the two weeks, the winning YMCA will receive 100 extra food items from the other Y.

“When the Hannibal YMCA approached us about a food drive competition between our two Y’s it sounded like a really fun idea” stated Cory Combs, member services director of the Quincy Family YMCA. “What a great way to get two communities and the members of two local YMCAs to come together and have a little friendly competition while also providing for the needs of others. While there is no major monetary wagers between the staff members of the two Ys, bragging rights can be just as rewarding. The coolest part about it, though, is that whoever ‘wins,’ we all know that the point of the whole competition is to fulfill the mission of the YMCA by serving those in need.”
