This year’s successful March for Meals was held on Saturday, March 21, 2009, and involved over 86 local volunteers and 1000 Mayors nationwide.  “We raised more than $5,607.21 and are enjoying a renewed interest in our organization and its mission”, said Administrator, Diana Hendrix.  “As always, we have received a positive response from our community, which makes all the work that goes into this annual campaign worth it.  The success of the March For Meals campaign, in addition to the $1,000 grant received form MOWAA, will fuel momentum for an even more successful campaign next year.”
March For Meals is an annual national campaign to raise awareness of senior hunger and to encourage action on the part of the local community.  Senior nutrition programs across the United States promote March For Meals in their local communities through public events, partnerships with local business, volunteer recruitment and fundraising initiatives.  The campaign takes place in the month of March because it was during this month that the law was enacted that included senior meal programs in the Older Americans Act, Mayors For Meals is a component of March For Meals that encourages the involvement of local mayors.
