Strains of Christmas carols will be heard throughout Wavering and Moorman Parks as runners and walkers, many dressed in holiday costumes, participate in the 18th Annual Jingle Bell Run/Walk for Arthritis on Saturday, Dec. 6.  The event, which includes a 5K run, a 5K walk, and a Fun Walk, will start at the Quincy Mall at 10 a.m.  The outdoor race route is USATF certified, however Fun Walkers have the option of walking in the Mall. Organizers are preparing for 450 participants and hope to raise over $20,000.

A pre-registration will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday Dec. 3, at the Quincy Mall Fountain Court.  Participants can also pre-register at the Arthritis Foundation Office at Blessing at 14th, Room 230, or online at jinglebellquincy.com. The registration fee is $20, or $23 on race day, and there are prizes for anyone raising $35 or more in pledges. All participants receive a long sleeve Jingle Bell Run/Walk shirt, a jingle bell wrist band, a “goodie bag,” and the chance to win prizes donated by the Quincy Mall stores. Registration forms are available at First Bankers Trust, Burger King, the Quincy Public Library, Tri-City Sports, Poage Auto Plaza, WGEM, the Mall office, or by calling (217) 228-3208.  Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. on race day.
Awards will be given to the top three male and female finishers in eight age categories in both the 5K run and the 5K walk.  There is also a holiday costume competition and special prizes for the top three fundraisers.
