Couple gets surprise reception for 60th anniversary

Friends and relatives threw a surprise 60th anniversary reception for Phyllis Ann and Charlie Taylor at the Monroe City Nutrition Center on Sunday.

The couple, who now live in Hannibal, married on July 7, 1957, in Monroe City, Father Ludwig officiated. Attendants were Joe Thompson and the late Doris Givan.

Phyllis is the daughter of the late Angelo and Lena Thompson. Charlie is the son of the late Virgil and Pearl Taylor.

They are the parents of Mike Taylor and wife, Retha, of Florissant; Martin Taylor and wife, Sandy, of Troy; and Marsha Estes and husband, Craig, of Hannibal. They are the grandparents of Sara Taylor, Justin Taylor, Bradley Taylor, Taylor Estes and Colin Estes. They have three great grandchildren and their granddaughter, Taylor, is expecting twins this month.

Charlie retired from Central Stone Co., where he worked for 40 years. He served in them Missouri National Guard for 6 years. Phyllis was the last acting postmistress at the Huntington Post Office until it closed in 1968.
