Robert (Bob) and Gwen Wilgus of Hannibal will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary with an open house dessert reception from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 26, at First Presbyterian Church in Hannibal. Family and friends are invited.
Bob Wilgus and Gwen Williams were married June 1, 1958, at First Methodist Church in Mexico with the Rev. Clyde Miller officiating.
They are parents of Bobette (Scott) Hatteberg of Solon, Ohio, and Shari Rumer of West Des Moines, Iowa. Their grandchildren are Alyssa (Sam) Garver of Marion, Ind., Adam Hatteberg of Anderson, S. C., Keaton Rumer and Kaden Rumer of Johnston, Iowa.
Mr. Wilgus was a senior designer with the Missouri Department of Transportation for 31 years, retiring in 1991.
Mrs. Wilgus was a fourth grade teacher at Mark Twain Elementary School for 16 1/2 years. She also taught in Novelty and Kirkwood for seven years. She also retired in 1991.
The couple met on a double blind date on Labor Day of 1957 and Bob proposed two weeks later. They set their wedding date for June 1.
After retirement they volunteered with the Salvation Army in disaster areas, with Lay Renewal Ministries in St. Louis and then full-time with Child Evangelism Fellowship at its international headquarters in Warrenton for 15 years. They presently volunteer with the Hannibal Regional Auxiliary.
