HANNIBAL | Registration for Hannibal Parks & Recreation Spring Pickleball League is open.

Participants may sign up for leisure, intermediate or competitive league.

Play will be on Monday evenings at the Admiral Coontz Recreation Center, starting March 2 and ending April 6. There will be a tournament for the competitive league on Wednesday, April 8.

There are 32 spots available and the leagues typically fill up well before the deadline date. The schedule will be determined after all registrations are received. The cost is $35 per team.

The registration deadline is Feb. 17. Registration is available at the Hannibal Parks & Recreation office at City Hall, 320 Broadway. More information is available by calling 573-221-0154 or emailing

Pickleball equipment and courts are available for play at the Admiral Coontz Recreation Center, which is open 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday.

In addition to the regular league, a Drop-In Pickleball program will begin 5:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 3, at the Admiral Coontz Recreation Center. Drop-In games will continue on March 3, March 17, March 24 and March 31 and April 14, April 21 and April 28. Each participant must pay $3 per night.

Courts will be designated for competitive, intermediate and leisure players. Players are welcome to “drop in” and play games. Four players start on a court; when a game is complete, the winners will remain on the court and separate. The losers will go to the bench. Two new players from the bench will join the new game. This system allows people to play with new partners.

Uncertainty lingers over spring prep sports season
In a normal year, we would be talking about track meets, baseball games, soccer matches and golf duals right now.
Instead, the spring sports season is delayed for an undetermined amount of time while the world deals with the coronavirus pandemic. The Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) has not given an update on when the season will resume, other than they are not planning on canceling any spring sports championships.
