QUINCY, Ill. | Illinois State Police have turned over information about a 37-year-old man for possible prosecution after investigating a report of shots fired on Wednesday.

State Police got a report at 1:15 p.m. on Feb. 12, that a male driver had been shot by unknown occupants of an all-terrain vehicle in the fields just west of his location on I-172, near mile post 8 in Adams County.

An officer found the driver standing outside his vehicle on a cell phone. He said he was the sole occupant of the vehicle and reported that shots had been fired into the vehicle. The vehicle appeared to have bullet holes in the front windshield, however, investigators found no evidence that an all-terrain vehicle was in the snowy fields in that area.

Investigators determined that the driver, who was uninjured, had fired the shots from inside the vehicle.

The driver was taken to Blessing Hospital in Quincy for evaluation. A report was sent to the Adams County State's Attorney for review.

An ISP release did not give the driver's name.
