Chess tournament in honor of Norman Grubb coming to library Oct. 12

HANNIBAL — Hannibal Free Public Library will sponsor a free chess tournament on Saturday, Oct. 12.

The tournament is a memorial to Norman Grubb, one of the library's beloved chess men. Gary Blickhan, of Quincy, is this year's Tournament Director. There will be adult and junior divisions, and trophies will be awarded to the winner in each division. The tournament will be held on the third floor at the Hannibal Free Public Library, 200 S. 5th St. in Hannibal.

Chess players of all ages and skill levels are welcome to participate. Spectators are also welcome. The three-round tournament starts at 1 p.m. and will end at 5:15 p.m., or when all games are complete.

Registration for the tournament is available by calling the library at 573-221-0222, or signing up on the day of the tournament between 12 and 1 p.m. at the library.
