LaGrange police say a child abduction report from last week was false.

Police said the Canton mother who made the report admitted during a Thursday interview that she made up the story.

The woman, who has not been identified, could face charges. The Lewis County prosecuting attorney’s office has reviewed the case, but as of late Friday afternoon no charges had been filed.

The woman told authorities that a man tried to kidnap her two-year-old daughter from a vehicle while she taking was a backpack into LaGrange Head Start at 114 S. Main on Oct. 20.

She claimed the man ran away after she slammed his hand in the car door.
