A man accused of stealing a tractor-trailer truck in Hannibal was caught in Arkansas after a wild chase.
Forty-six-year-old Michael Wayne McSparren is charged with fleeing, theft by receiving, driving left of center and driving while intoxicated.
Arkansas authorities say McSparren told them he stole the 2000 Volvo diesel tractor and a trailer from Bear Creek Auto Recyclers of Hannibal. The incident happened last weekend.
Arkansas Highway Police Cpl. Roy Martin reported spotting the truck about 1 a.m. Sunday in a convenience store parking lot.
Martin said the truck got back on the road and headed south after the driver saw his patrol car.
Martin said he tried to stop the truck when the vehicle crossed the center line. The truck continued even after another trooper put spike strips in the road and flattened the trucks front tires.
The driver finally lost control and the truck went down an embankment near Marble Falls, Ark. The suspect was caught after a short foot pursuit. The empty trailer had not been located.
McSparren was being held in the Boone County Jail on $50,000 bond.
