Police say abandoned vehicle sweep successful

Hannibal police have reported another successful abandoned vehicle sweep.
Only one of the 44 vehicles found to be unlicensed or in disrepair had to be towed by the department.
The results of the two-week sweep mark a continued drop in the number of abandoned vehicles found during the program’s three years of operation.
“It appears we are seeing a significant improvement in this area and we are committed to continue the bi-annual vehicle sweeps to ensure long term compliance,” Chief Lyndell Davis said in a statement.
Officers also identified 27 vehicles parked on or around private property that were referred to the city’s property maintenance inspector for investigation.
